Art is not only something you see in a museum or a gallery. Art is something you do every day, in your own way. Artistry is how you express yourself, how you solve problems, how you make the world a better place.
Some people paint, write, or draw. Some people design buildings or shoes. These are familiar examples of creativity. But there are many other ways people create, some while not even recognising how great their work is. Some people are terrific at sales. Countless others find creativity in accounting solutions, raising money for charities, or even serving in supermarket checkouts. These are valuable and important creative expressions, even works of art.
So what is your art? What is your secret superpower? What do you do that makes you unique, that makes you happy, that makes a difference?
Your art is whatever you are passionate about, whatever you are good at, whatever you enjoy. Your art is your gift to the world, your contribution to society, your legacy to the future.
You may not think of yourself as an artist, but in reality you are – or at least you could be. You have the power to create something out of nothing. Great artists transform ideas into reality, to inspire others with their vision.
What can we do to be more creative, more artful?
Start by recognising and appreciating our own art and the art of others. It makes sense to celebrate our diversity and our commonality. We can learn from each other and collaborate with each other. We can challenge ourselves and try new things, and we can have fun and enjoy the process.
Creativity is not a talent that some people have and some people don’t. It is a skill that everyone can develop and improve. Creativity is a mindset that everyone can adopt and apply.
So let’s be more creative, more artful, more artistic. Let’s find our art and share it with the world.
